In 2011, SBEC was contracted to design the mechanical, electrical, fire protection and fire alarm systems for three existing buildings located on the Auraria Higher Education Center campus totaling in excess of 300,000 GSF.  Approximate areas for Central, West, and Arts Buildings are 85,700 GSF, 86,300 GSF, and 127,500 GSF respectively.

Phase 1 of 3 consisted of the fire sprinkler/alarm schematic design for the Central Classroom, West Classroom, and Arts Building. In addition, the design and construction administration was completed for the Central Classroom building.  Scope of work also included providing a new fire service main into the Central Classroom building from a nearby water main.

In 2012, SBEC was contracted to design the mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems for this project, Phase 2 of 3 included the fire sprinkler/alarm design and construction administration for the West Classroom building.  SBEC’s scope of work included providing a new fire service main into West Classroom building from nearby water main.

In 2014 SBEC completed the third and final phase for the fire sprinkler/alarm upgrade for the Arts Building which includes a new fire service main, two nitrogen preaction systems, a full building sprinkler design and fire alarm system modification.

In addition, SBEC provided electrical engineering design and construction administration for the Central and West Classrooms.

The project completed on time, under budget, successful by all standards, experience working with AHEC staff.

Additional campus work completed with monies left over from Central & West Classroom
