This project consisted of the expansion of the existing emergency department that included two new trauma rooms, a new cardiac room, five new urgent exam rooms, 14 new exam/treatment rooms, a new radiographic room and a new CT Scan room. The design also included a new decontamination shower, five new nurses stations, a new security office, waiting rooms, cashier, vending area, public restrooms, an information desk, counseling rooms and a new nurses core area including: sterile supply, medication, soiled utility, break room, locker room, nurse manager’s office and conference room. Some of the system features included:
- New 480/277V and 208/120V power distribution
- Expansion of critical, life safety and equipment branch power distribution
- Coordination of electrical contractors scope with GE radiography and CT scan equipment installation requirements
- Design of power and telephone/data connection to Hill Rom headwall units
- Coordination of electrical contractor’s scope with Hill Rom nurse call/nurse locator system
- Design of direct/indirect lighting systems in corridors and exam rooms
- Design of power for exam lighting, task lighting, trauma/cardiac room lighting, under-cabinet lighting and pendant lighting at info desk
- Design for intercom, CCTV, entry door control and panic alarm in psychiatric area
- Design of pathways for telephone and data systems
- Design of power for new air handling units, VAV boxes, fire/smoke dampers, medical gas alarms, etc.
- Design of new fire alarm system including new FACP and annunciation at nurse stations, smoke door control and elevator recall
- Design of smoke detection for complete coverage system
- Design of fire alarm chime/strobe devices
- Design for interface of fire alarm system with HVAC system including duct detection in air handlers and fire/smoke dampers
