SBEC provided Mechanical and Electrical engineering design services for various building renovations at Smoky Hill High School.
The original building was constructed in 1975 with a major addition in 1984 along the south side of the building. The renovation has improved student and staff comfort and brought the building up to current code requirements. Some science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scope was incorporated into the project.
SBEC’s scope of work included:
- HVAC Renovation – replace existing fiberglass ductwork (medium pressure)
- Renovate chilled water system
- Replace existing cooling tower
- Replace 6 rooftop HVAC units
- Relocate existing hydronic expansion tank
- Modify existing DDC control system to incorporate new HVAC equipmentPlumbing renovations include replacing:
- Hot water recirculation piping
- Mop sink basins and faucets
- (10) drinking fountains
- Science room sing faucets
- Lab waste pipe
- Emergency eyewash stations
- Science room gas controls
- Gate isolation valves
- Domestic hot water system thermostatic mixing valves
- New elevator sump pump systems at elevator hoistway
- Upgrade fire sprinkler / fire protection coverage
- Replacement of lighting and A/V systems and controls
