This premier facility 6-story tower addition to the existing hospital features 54 new private patient rooms, an expanded main entrance and lobby, relocated chapel, gift shop and café and support spaces with a mechanical penthouse. Medical/surgical patient suites occupy second, fourth and fifth floors. Sixth floor shelled for future expansion.

In addition to providing full MEP design services necessary to serve the addition, infrastructure improvements to the central chilled water plant, boiler plant and primary electrical service were required. A nominal 500-ton chiller and 700 horsepower steam boiler were added to the existing central utility plants.

SBEC’s mechanical and electrical scope of work consisted of:

  • Reconstruction of primary electrical underground distribution system was required to allow for the new building foot print
  • Two new utility company substation feeds, ATO switch and primary metering cabinet, two new primary switch cabinets
  • New radial feeds to three existing pad mounted transformers and one new radial feed to a new pad-mounted transformer for this project
  • New 3000A, 480Y/277v normal distribution system
  • New 1100kw/1375kVA diesel engine generator supporting a 2000A, 480Y/277v essential electrical distribution system
  • Three automatic transfer switches serving branches of life safety critical and equipment
  • A new new fire pump transfer switch and controller
  • Modifications to the existing central utility plant to support a new chiller, cooling tower and associated pumps
  • Modifications to the existing boiler house to support a new boiler, including the addition of a new 275 kw/344kVA diesel engine generator
  • Site and interior lighting design
  • Branch circuit power
  • Coordination with Owner and medical equipment
  • Electrical provisions for medical equipment
  • Rough-in for IT, data, nurse-call systems
  • Communications pathways
