This project is a LEED v2.2 Gold Certified high-bay advanced test facility addition to an existing 1960s masonry building containing test labs and office space. The project had an accelerated design and construction schedule and included extremely sensitive vibration and acoustic requirements. The facility is used for testing of flight hardware in a simulated space environment. It includes control rooms, offices, conference space and utility rooms.
Key Features include:
- New LEED Gold Certified research and testing facility, designed to perform 30% better than ASHRAE 90.1
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) air flow modeling applied for high-bay test chamber and experiment bay to eliminate conflicts prior to construction
- Multiple scientific users coordination
- Water management plan
- Native landscaping
- Fan wall technology applied for reduced acoustics and vibration (provides partial redundancy)
SBEC’s scope of work consisted of the following:
- Two 120 ton air-cooled chillers
- Two 1,000 MBH gas fired boilers
- Fan wall technology design for reduced acoustics and vibration
- Pre-action fire sprinkler system throughout building
- Special Hazard fire protection design
